The Behaviour & Neurodevelopment Program is a comprehensive, practice-oriented learning pathway designed to develop foundational through to advanced capabilities in understanding and supporting behaviour within the context of neurodevelopment. This program incorporates various principles from behavioural science, developmental psychology, and applied practice, equipping participants with the essential knowledge and skills to interpret behaviour meaningfully and respond effectively across clinical, educational, and community settings, particularly through behaviour support training.
Program Aims
This program aims to:
- Develop a conceptual understanding of behaviour as functional and context-dependent
- Build knowledge of neurodevelopmental processes and individual differences
- Strengthen skills in emotional regulation and behavioural support
- Support the application of evidence-based emotional regulation strategies in real-world contexts
- Provide a structured pathway toward professional practice and further training, including neurodevelopment courses.
Program Structure
The program is designed as a stackable learning pathway, consisting of progressive levels:
Level 1: Foundations of Behaviour & Neurodevelopment
- Understanding behaviour, regulation, and developmental differences in practice
- Introduction to behavioural principles
- Neurodevelopment and brain systems
- Emotional regulation
- Practical behavioural support strategies
Indicative Credit Value: 10–12 hours learning
≈ 5–10 CPD hours / 0.125 EFTSL equivalent (micro-credential level)
Level 2: Applied Behaviour & Neurodevelopment
- Assessment, formulation, and intervention
- Functional behaviour assessment
- Case formulation
- Intervention planning
- Data-informed practice
Indicative Credit Value:
20–30 hours learning
≈ 10–20 CPD hours / 0.25 EFTSL equivalent
Level 3: Advanced Behavioural Practice
- Complex presentations and advanced application
- Complex case analysis
- Multi-system intervention
- Ethical considerations
- Advanced clinical reasoning
Indicative Credit Value:
30–40 hours learning
≈ 20+ CPD hours / 0.375 EFTSL equivalent
Total Program (Full Pathway)
When combined, the full program represents:
- 60–80 hours of structured learning
- Equivalent to approximately:
30–50 CPD hours
0.75 EFTSL equivalent (indicative, non-accredited stage)
Learning Approach
The program is designed to be:
- Practice-oriented — grounded in real-world application
- Case-based — using applied examples and scenarios
- Evidence-informed — integrating current research
- Progressive — building from foundational to advanced skills
Target Audience
The program is suitable for:
- Behaviour support practitioners
- Allied health professionals (psychology, OT, speech, counselling)
- Therapy assistants and support staff
- Educators and school professionals
- Students and emerging practitioners
Certification
Participants receive:
- Certificate of Completion for each level
- Record of hours for continuing professional development (CPD)
Pathway Development
The Behaviour & Neurodevelopment Program is designed as a scalable training framework, with future potential to expand into:
- Accredited professional development programs
- RTO-aligned qualifications
- University-recognised micro-credentials
- Degree-level training pathways

Understanding behaviour requires more than mere observation; it demands insight into the underlying processes that shape how individuals think, feel, and respond to their environment. The Foundations of Behaviour & Neurodevelopment course is designed to provide a clear, structured introduction to the key principles that underpin behaviour, with a strong emphasis on neurodevelopment and emotional regulation strategies, alongside practical application.
This behaviour support training course integrates perspectives from behavioural science, developmental theory, and clinical practice, enabling participants to move beyond surface-level interpretations of behaviour and cultivate a more informed, analytical, and compassionate approach.
Participants will develop an understanding of:
Behaviour as functional and meaningful, rather than random or intentional.
The role of neurodevelopment in shaping behaviour and capacity, as explored in neurodevelopment courses.
How emotional regulation influences behaviour across different contexts, including the application of emotional regulation strategies.
The interaction between environmental demands and individual abilities.
Practical approaches to understanding and supporting behaviour in real-world settings through behaviour support training.
This course is suitable for:
- Students and emerging professionals
- Therapy assistants and support workers
- Behaviour support practitioners (Please note, this course is ESSENTIAL for early career behaviour support practitioners seeking behaviour support training)
- Allied health professionals (psychology, OT, speech, counselling)
- Educators and school staff
- Anyone working with children or individuals with neurodevelopmental differences, particularly those interested in neurodevelopment courses or emotional regulation strategies.
By the end of this behaviour support training course, participants will be able to: Describe key principles of behaviour and neurodevelopment, explain behaviour as a form of communication influenced by environmental and developmental factors, and identify common functions of behaviour using basic functional analysis (ABC model). Participants will also describe the development of emotional regulation and factors that impact it, while learning emotional regulation strategies that can be applied across various settings. Additionally, they will recognise the role of neurodevelopmental differences, such as autism and ADHD, in behaviour as part of the neurodevelopment courses.
MODULE 1: Foundations of Behaviour Support Training
MODULE 2: Neurodevelopment Courses & the Brain
MODULE 3: Emotional Regulation Strategies
MODULE 4: Practical Behavioural Support
This course forms the first stage of The Behaviour & Neurodevelopment Program. It provides the essential foundations needed to progress into more advanced learning in behaviour support training, emotional regulation strategies, and clinical formulation, as well as applied practice in neurodevelopment courses.
